The Broth of the Gods

So you are on Keto; but you are finding it super hard to get your potassium and maybe your sodium.

That's ok: let Freeze introduce you to the broth of the gods, and it only takes me about 45 seconds to make!

No Salt Salt Substitute, 11-Ounce Can

I try to drink this twice a day, doing a tsp of Better Than Bouillon and 1/2 tsp of NoSalt.

If you are like me, you may not have a lot of time on your hands! That's cool :) This Keurig gets used 3 times per day. My morning bullet proof coffee; then my 2 Broth of the Gods!

This is just a quicker way to get hot water then putting it on a pot or even microwaving.

I measure out half a tsp of NoSalt and throw it in mug. then I scoop a tsp of the Better Than Bouillon and place in the mug, and run the largest size on my Keurig.

The results is this amazing, warm cup of yumminess.

For those interested in the nutritional information:

The above is just for one of these mugs worth in a day. If you want, add more NoSalt but I think the perfect balance of flavor happens at the 1/2 tsp mark.

Experiment with this and try it out. I was having heart flutters and other symptoms; I attributed them to lack of electrolytes and potassium. Since starting this broth about 2 weeks ago I have had 0 issues!

Enjoy! (Also the links in this blog lead you to the products to order, if you would like)

Why I Haven't Started Going Back to the Gym.. Yet

It may come as a shock being that I am morbidly obese, but I love the gym. I always have.  There's a rush in the feeling of burning your muscles, and I miss it. I miss the elliptical; I miss knowing I was improving my body more every day.

And I haven't gone back since August.

There's a reason! Not an excuse, per se, but a reason.

In May I ran a 5k (color run), and by ran I mean I started running and heard a pop in my knee and walked the rest of the way. I really thought it would be easy, I was up to an hour on the elliptical and clearing 4-5 miles every time.

Lesson 1: Using an elliptical /= running on the road.

It was a hard lesson to learn... as I soon discovered I had messed up my meniscus in my left knee! (Which also happens to be the same ankle I've had injured for years and the same shoulder) My left side is my bad side! :-P

Anyway, so I made a goal to myself upon starting keto that I would go back to the gym when I got down to 350.

But here's the honest truth: I am feeling a ton better. 30 pounds down and I am walking way more, more active, not huffing and puffing going up the stairs, not begging to sit down after standing for a while... I just feel better. Which is crazy for the fact that I still weigh 379lbs!

So I'm going to go back sooner then later. My goal is this week to sign up at Golds Gym near my house and go cancel my Planet Fitness membership which is farther away.

Im going to take it slow and get back into the groove; then it's onward. 34 days into keto.. I'm thinking it's time to get to the gym.

So what's my goal for the year? Idk.. let's say 100lbs. By the end of 2015 I would like to weigh 300 (i started at 410 the first week of december) so I'd say to be at 300 by the end of 2015. If I can get there, I will feel super accomplished, then keep pressing forward.

Here's to months of bacon, meat, cheese, and other yumminess on my way down the mountain of a scale.

See you at the bottom

Bio: Who is Freeze?

Hi! My name is Freeze! Thanks for checking out the blog. I have had an entire life of struggle with obesity. I have never been lazy, and would be considered a very active obese person... but I was just never able to really get the weight off. As you will see in the archives of this blog, quite a few years ago I did manage to lose a significant amount of weight; that was regained after a lot of life happenings steered me off course.

As I've gotten older (currently 27) I have begun to finally feel the physical affects of morbid obesity. 2013 was the first time I ever felt tired from standing around or walking short distances. 2014 was the first time I ever cussed out loud because the only bathrooms in my apartment are both upstairs, while everything I use is downstairs.

I knew it was time for something drastic. I tried Juicing (After watching Fat, Sick, And Nearly Dead,) but it just didn't work for me as a sustainable option.

It was then through research and hours of scouring that I discovered Keto. It was actually by accident. I was reading through reddit's Progress Pics subreddit when I saw a guy, similar age, who was huge. Then his after shot where he was ripped up and healthy. I read through his comments and found out his diet was keto, and he would eat wings 3-4 times a week. I was sold. I decided to do research,

I did keto for 4 months and lost 55lbs! Then I got gout. After recovering from that it took me until December of 2014 to finally hunker down and commit. No longer scared of having a goutbreak; I delved in. I discovered my gout trigger (diet soda during keto) and cut it completely out.

My goal with this blog is to continue to update it with recipes I may accidentally discover, with real results as they happen, progress pictures; the good and the bad stories; and everything in between. Lastly, my goal is to find the best deals on keto-friendly things around the internet and provide them to you, links and discount codes included. This will range from actual food items (like MCT Oil) to kitchen wares that are essential.

So one blog at a time, let's see some real results, here at RealSults.

Introducing Nicole!

Hello keto readers!

My name is Nicole and I have joined Freeze on this amazing keto-filled journey. Freeze is actually the main reason I got into ketogenic diet. Freeze and I met waaaay back in elementary school. Yea, that’s right, I've known this guy since we were itty bitty grade school kids. We even had a tiny little grade school fling, but that was decades ago! Wow, I just made myself feel old. However long Freeze and I have been friends, he’s always helped me and I've been lucky to have someone answer my questions about this rather confusing and sometimes frustrating diet.

Moving right along! So, now that I’m on this epic path with one of my greatest friends and he’s asked me to be a part of RealSults. I thought I’d share a little bit about myself before I launch into posting recipes and such.

What lead me to choose keto? I read that keto was once used and is still used to treat Epilepsy. It can have a high success rate if done successfully. Now, I’m not epileptic, but I was diagnosed Bipolar when I was 14. Well, what does being bipolar have to do with the keto diet? Medications called Anticonvulsants, which are used as mood stabilizers in people with bipolar disorder, are also used in epilepsy patients to control seizures. Many people who have epilepsy are also diagnosed with bipolar. If you cure one with ketogenic diet, can you cure the other? While I am not epileptic, can I see a difference in removing carbohydrates from diet, replacing them with high fats and proteins? My theory is that yes, I will. It’s been said that Atkins can really fight depression and can help aid with fighting bipolar disorder. Is the “carb haze” really dragging us down as a society? I’m going to say yes.

I’m on Day 11 of my ketogenic journey. My part in this blog is going to include showing off tasty recipes, giving tips for what to do if you’re out and about and you need a keto solution, keto-cocktails, and each time you see me post I’ll give you an update on my mental health state on a 1-10 scale.

See you guys until my next post!

PS - I'm obsessed with  My Little Pony, so excuse my signature. :P

(Day 30) Philly Cheese Steak Salad

I saw some Steak-ums and thought... hmm let's try a philly cheese steak salad.

Here's the final product (I ate way too much of it, this was half of the recipe)

Now Last year when I visited Philly I learned that real Philly Cheese Steaks are made with Cheez-Whiz. I couldn't find any at the store, so I used this off brand stuff (found at walmart and you will see in the nutrition below) It was a bad choice. I broke this recipe into 3's so my carbs weren't that bad but I need to find a better cheese; and maybe improve on veggies that I use with it (besides just onions) And I probably put too much cheese on it for the average person.

Here's the nutrition of the entire meal before breaking it into servings (again I did 3)

Of course, if you can find a lower carb cheez whiz ( I know I will experiment) then this could get even better.. Plus I really didnt want the steakums to get so small; but that's just my shitty stove!

This was super tasty, I did add some NuSalt (potassium salt) to salten the meat up, coulda used more. Really, the key here is the cheese; I need to find the perfect cheese for this. And some different veggies and do it as an all-in-the-pan recipe. Will update after experimentaion.

Enjoy!

Day 27 Keto: Today I have cravings...

Since I got back into Keto 27 days ago, today is the first day where I have had cravings, and they are BAD.

It's so strange how the brain works. My self is actually trying to justify why it's ok (It isnt). It shouldn't be like that right? That can't be normal behavior?

I mean its like I have two people trying to argue the pros and cons of a cheat meal.. I need this feeling to go away!

If I don't give in THAT is the true victory.

Keto Friendly Eggnog!

Hey guys! Got a keto friendly eggnog here.

Now, I am just now taste testing this after letting it sit in the fridge for quite a few hours, and I think either a) too much nutmeg or b) too little splenda.

You can add nutmeg and stuff for taste as you will; I made a Gallon, and here's the recipe.

Half Gallon of Almond Milk Unsweetended Vanilla Flavored
Quart of Liquid Eggs
2 Pints of Heavy Whipping Cream
1 Cup of Splenda
I did the entire 30mil of Vanilla Extract
and I did 1/4th cup of Nutmeg.

The last two, I would add to taste (of course, this recipe is easily halved as well if you wanna try it).

I bought a Gallon of water for .95 and poured it down the drain, and used it as my jug.

Pour everything into it, cap and shake it shake it shake it.

I then let it sit in the fridge marinating; you can do whatever.

Here's what it looks like in the cup:

Instantly I notice it is not as thick as traditional eggnog... but it probably could never be and keep it this low carb.

Here is the Nutrition: First for the entire gallon, then a 4oz serving. (I'm drinking an 8oz glass right now)

I am sure there are ways to get that carb count down some more; but even then, not too shabby.

It has tasted better and better as I sip while writing this. Of course, this is a virgin Eggnog!

Until next time
